I'm excited to share a new project created in collaboration with Digital Fabrics. It's an amazing simple DIY tutorial to make a bean bag chair using 2 meters of heavyweight fabric 147 cm wide. I used one of my favorites designs from the LIVE COLORFUL collection with Digital Fabrics, named cheery.

I was inspired by a simple tutorial that I found in Pinterest. So I used that idea for inspiration but added some fun curves to make it look more organic and used different measurements to make ideal size for an adult or a teen. It was a fun project and quite easy to make, even for a beginner sewer like me!

MATERIAL:

  1. 2 meters of heavyweight fabric. I used a fabric named waratah drill (147 cm wide)

  2. 2 packs of bean bag chair refill (100 liter refill bags)

  3. Sewing machine, my favorite is this one that I got recently for sewing clothes and DIY projects.

  4. Thread

  5. Scissors

  6. Pins

How to Make an Amazing Easy Bean Bag Chair:

It will be much easier to understand how to cut the fabric and sew the beanbag chair if you follow the video tutorial above.

1. The first step is to fold the fabric in half with the pretty design facing out.

2. Then measure approximately 30 cm in one side of the fabric and cut a curve starting from that side to the other side of the fabric. Watch the video above, min 1:00 for reference.

3. Fold the fabric in half again with the pretty design facing out again. This means that the fabric should have two folds. Measure about 15cm on one side of the fabric, just like last time, cut a little curve again from end to end. Watch the video above, min 1:35 for reference.

4. Undo the folds, turn the fabric over, and fold again but this time turning everything upside down, with the “ugly” part of the fabric in the front. Add a few pins to hold the fabric in place. It's time to start sewing!

5. First sew one side of the bean bag chair and leave an opening of about 20 cm at the bottom so you can fill it with the bean bag chair refill later.

6. Open the fabric and fold again but now creating a shape similar to a cone. Watch the video at minute 3:00 for more details. Add pins and sew that curved line you see in the video to close the bean bag chair completely.

TIP: I added a zigzag sewing finish all around the edges to protect the stitches from breaking open.

7. When you are done sewing, turn the fabric inside out and start stuffing your bean bag chair using the 2 bags of bean bag chair filling.

When you're done filling the bean bag chair, close the remaining opening by hand using a needle and thread.

TIP: You can make a lining for your bean bag chair using the same tutorial. That way you can remove the cover and wash it whenever you need.

I hope your family enjoys this bean bag chair a lot and that it brings them a lot of joy. It's one of the favorite pieces in my home. Don't forget to choose a super cute fabric that brings a smile to your face!
