DIY: Personalized Coasters with Lots of Color!

DIY: Personalized Coasters with Lots of Color! | Live Colorful One of the first things I do each morning is clean the table from the night before. I don’t know if it’s the morning light, but those coffee and water spots are so visible at 7am, it drives me crazy! Yesterday I set to work to solve the problem or at least, improve my mornings a little bit.

I used photos of family and friends to make custom coasters, because I must confess, I have a couple of coasters in the house but they are too pretty to use daily. Just when I finished the project, I thought: Well, here's a great idea for Christmas gifts! And super colorful, just how I love it!

MATERIALS:

  • Wooden squares. I use a few pieces of basswood I had at home, but I saw tons of wooden squares at Michaels for only 76 cents and I also found this 6 pack that is ready to use and the perfect size. You could also use tiles, the ones for kitchens and bathrooms.
  • Photographs
  • Colorful paper sheets
  • Mod Podge or any other decoupage sealer brand
  • A brush or sponge to spread the Mod Podge
  • Glue stick (optional)

STEPS:

1. Cut the photographs and paper sheets to the size of the wooden squares.

2. Glue the pictures to the wooden bases. You can use the Mod Podge for that or glue stick, whichever is easiest for you.

3. Cut the sheets of paper into small squares. I cut them by 1cm x 1 cm. If you're lucky, you might find little colorful squares at the craft store, or you can use stickers or confetti to decorate the coasters.

4. Glue the little colorful squares to the photos. Play with the colors! Then add about three layers of Mod Podge. Wait 10 to 15 minutes after each layer and two hours before you start using them.

5. Colorful and fun, your coasters are ready!
